This recipe was given to me by Donna S., the mum of one of my best friends. Every time I’ve made these and brought them to a party, I’ve never had leftovers. Note: directions given are for the Pillsbury brand of breadsticks. You m ay need to tweak some numbers if you use a different dough.
What You Need
- Pillsbury Breadsticks or other premade breadsticks of your choice. You can make your own dough if you want, but you may have to experiment to get it right.
- Grated cheese. I recommend cheddar or one of the pizza/taco blends that has cheddar in it.
- Garlic powder or other seasoning of choice
- Other fillings (meat, etc.), if desired
- Several cooking pans
- Spaghetti sauce, if desired
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375.
- Open the breadstick tube and separate the strips of dough.
- Take one strip of dough and tear it in two widthwise. You should end up with two short, squat pieces.
- Fill one half of the dough strip with cheese and any other toppings, but not so much that it will explode.
- Take the other half of the dough strip and place it on top of its mate, sealing the edges. It is more important to get the ends sealed than the sides.
- Twist the stuffed breadsticks, stuffing in any stray bits of cheese.
- Place the breadstick in the ungreased pan and smoosh down the ends (and possibly body) to make it stay. Repeat until the pan is full.
- Sprinkle breadsticks with garlic powder or other seasoning of choice.
- Cook for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool until manageably warm. Serve with spaghetti sauce for dipping, if desired.
Serving size
The Pillsbury breadsticks come 12 to a roll. Other brands may vary.
